Only 3 classes get immunity to damage, well 2 if you don't count the drake from drake warden, the forge claric and storm sorcerer, I would probably remove this and replace it with a damage buff or an agro ability.Īgain with immunity, best to replace this with a ramged weapon buff. I would honestly replace the whipe with a rapier and give the fire a greatsword instead of a rapier. Water is by far the weakest shift form, since you only give the a dagger and whipe when everything else get very viable options for weapons. No classes have 2 strong saves, you have wisdom and constitution, both are strong save. Just tone it down some and streamline it a bit. I hope that didn't come off as extremely harsh - I think you have the foundations of a good class here. It also might help to make all (or most) of the adaptations universal - that way you don't have to come up with 40+ of the things. A player who picks from multiple elements will end up much weaker than one who specializes and you don't want to have trap options like that in a class design. I would also just make the 4 elemental masteries different subclasses. Something like Incendiary Cloud, Whirlwind, Chain Lightning, Heal, or Forcecage are all strong enough. I would change those capstone spells to level 6, 7, or 8 spells. Thirdly, giving out level 9 spells to a class with Extra Attack and many defensive abilities is too strong. Imagine playing a rogue or barbarian next to this class - how could you not feel overshadowed? It's a copy of the level 11 barbarian ability, but this class gets it 3 levels earlier. Another example is the Salt of the Earth (great name BTW) alteration.

So now the class has two big tier 2 features (one offensive and one defensive), plus spell casting, plus the damage resistance from the Elemental Aspect. The latter is the Rogue's central tier 2 ability, but the class also gets Extra Attack. The air form gets Gust Rush at level 5, which is equivalent to Uncanny Dodge. Secondly, many of the adaptations are too strong at too early of a level. I would not have the forms get more than resistance until tier 4 (level 17). That's too powerful, even with the time limit on the Elemental Aspects. The Earth form is immune to three elements at level 11, and the three others can get at least one immunity at that level. Currently, I believe that there are only two subclasses that give immunities - the Forge cleric is immune to fire at level 17 and the storm sorcerer is immune to lightning and thunder at level 18. However, I believe this class is overpowered as it is currently written.įirst, this class gets a lot damage immunities and it gets them early. The document looks great and there are a lot of options here for a given character. You obviously put a lot of time into this class. I would greatly appreciate any and all feedback on the class, I'm expecting there to be some unclear language or descriptions.

A typical archetype level system would give them the spells at level 10 if they chose to master one aspect. The level breakdown for the masteries is 5, 11, and 17 to prevent players from grabbing these huge spells too early. This mastery system was partially born out of my desire to give the class access to powerful elemental-themed spells like Earthquake and Meteor Storm, but giving a player both would be exceptionally powerful for a halfcaster (it might still be broken, but that's what I'm here for). At levels 5, 11, and 17 you can either gain a new Elemental Aspect form or start mastering one you already know. Instead of typical archetypes, there are Elemental Masteries. Each form also has a small spell selection and Adaptions that can only be used while in the respective Elemental Aspect form.

It's a halfcaster with the unique ability to switch between four different Elemental Aspect forms, each of which has its own type resistances and weaknesses. The class was born out of my disappointment in the Way of the Four Elements monk archetype and I'm pretty happy with where the Elementalist has landed. After 30+ hours of work, I've finally finished the first draft of my first major homebrew, the Elementalist!
